GIRA©

CEIFA ambiente has developed a specific methodology for the integrated management of resources and wastes in the following areas: Construction and Demolition Waste, Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment, Waste of Commercial and Leisure Centers.

The GIRA© methodology consists of a dynamic process of mutual learning, tracking and consultancy that allows for the formulation of the most viable solutions to real problems faced by a company or a community. The starting point for GIRA© is usually a pilot project.

The role of CEIFA ambiente is to act as a moderator and consultant. Its task is to create favourable conditions to launch pilot projects and to manage the dynamics of a mutual learning process, always bearing in mind the following basic principles of the GIRA©:

  • GIRA© concerns the complete life cycle of a product or a substance. A product is made up of natural resources, transformed into complex materials and components in industrial processes that have required energy, manual labour and accumulated know-how;
  • the economic value incorporated in products is devalued when they are thrown in the bin. Hence, the reduction of residues is not only an important environmental goal but also a question of common sense and economic rationality;GIRA© offers an holistic perspective while integrating physical and economic flows in the analysis of the problems;
  • The GIRA© methodology seeks to find solutions to complex problems by developing ways of managing the complexity in accordance with the specific needs of each project, whether it be at the level of a region, a specific sector, a company or a professional activity.
  • GIRA©-based projects assume the idea that information, communication and moderation are fundamental elements of an efficient management; people and institutions directly involved in these activities are the ones who actually decide about the goals and implement the project, through their daily activities and with the support of a moderator and a consultant.

The most recent project led with this methodology was REEE: L&L (description only available in Portuguese):
